Carbon Compliance
The Carbon Compliance team provides Display Energy Certificates (DECs), Domestic and Non-Domestic Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and TM44 Air Conditioning Certificates and reports. All of these Certificates are legally required and it is a growing market.

The role involves surveying the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, building geometry of many different types of commercial buildings. For Commercial EPCs, this results in an energy rating for the building which the client will require advice from us in order to improve the rating.

We are helping to improve the building stock of the country in order to reduce Carbon emissions. Ideally, we employ people with a Building Services qualification or experience but equally, we will consider people who have the desire and aptitude to learn quickly about Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning systems.

In recent years we have built on a number of long-term relationships to extend our services into engineering design and feasibility studies to focus on the most energy-efficient means of plant investment, assisting in establishing energy management systems such as ISO50001 and in setting up realistic plans for clients to achieve “net zero” CO2 emissions.

Experience in industrial manufacturing processes
Strong attention to detail in time pressured situations
Good communication and organisational skills
Good report writing skills
A broad understanding energy reduction techniques
A proactive approach to problem solving

Energy Survey Department
The Energy Survey Department undertake surveys of industrial processes as well as commercial and public sector buildings with the aim to identify energy savings which lead to cost and carbon reductions. Our work covers standalone energy audits, through to compliance with legislative requirements such as the Energy Savings Opportunities Scheme (ESOS).

In addition to survey work, we help organisations to better understand their energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, and work with them to implement certified energy management systems, providing them with the frameworks and tools to make sustained and measurable reductions in their environmental impact.

What are the key qualities you need for the team?

Our team consists of:
Energy and carbon analysts who need to be methodical in their approach to collecting, collating, and analysing data. This work requires focus and attention to detail. Our analysts must be highly numerate and possess a keen investigative mind coupled with strong IT skills, in particular Excel, Power Query and PowerBI.
Energy surveyors, engineers, and consultants, who have the experience to undertake survey work safely in vastly different environments, from small office buildings, through to schools and hospitals, to factories and chemical works. Our survey team are pragmatic and have the sector knowledge and experience to undertake the survey work, analysis and reporting that each job requires. Our surveyors need to be self-starters and self-sufficient as they will need to effectively manage their own time, balancing the travel, surveys, analysis and reporting.

Does a role in your team require specific qualification?

Our energy surveys typically (but not exclusively) have an undergraduate degree in a STEM subject, primarily mechanical or electrical engineering, coupled with membership in a professional organisation, such as the Energy Institute, CIBSE or Association of Energy Managers.
